Shopping at Daiso gives a whole new meaning to the term “cheap thrill.”
Ever since I discovered that Daiso has opened its door at ION Orchard, it has become one of my pit-stops whenever I am shopping there.
The Japanese retail chain stays true to its mission statement of creating stores with unique value and to help customers “find surprises and fun” --I personally spend hours scouring through the tall shelves and delighting in my discovery of useful products at only S$2 each!
While it is a wonder how Daiso manages to keep all items similarly priced, the sheer economies of scale must contribute to the all-in-one pricing structure.
Before you dismiss Daiso as a cheap bargain hunter’s playground, check out some of the bargains that I uncovered.
#1 – Green Tea Facial Cleansing Soap With Foaming Net
Not only can you drink green tea, you can now use it to wash your face. This product contains a bar of green tea facial cleansing soap and a netted bag. The netted bag is a clever idea as it helps foam up the soap and acts like an exfoliating cloth. It also makes for easy storage after use, just hang it up and let it dry. No more mushy soap!
#2 – Silk Cocoons
Made of 100% silk, these little cocoons have a gentle exfoliating effect that can make your skin as smooth as natural silk. The ergonomic design that fits the fingertip comfortably and that each cocoon can be used up to five times. Quite a genius idea as I have never seen anything like this before.
#3 – Makeup Remover Wipes
These makeup remover wipes are great and cost a fraction of the cost and doesn't skimp on quality. The large sheets contain cucumber moisture extract and Vitamin E essence, and not only do they smell great, they are also efficient and effective at removing makeup, including water-resistant eye makeup.
#4 – Moisture Hand Care Mask
Say no to messy hand treatments. DIY hand treatment is now easier with this product. Each pack of this hand mask comes in a pair of gloves. All you have to do is to slip in your clean hands into the gloves for 20 minutes and voila… you now have a pair of well-moisturised and smooth hands. Easy, clever, effective! These are great for use on a long haul flight to pass time and to keep your hands moisturised!
#5 – Beaded Hair Band
This beaded hair band is a steal because similar styles will cost you at least five times the price at accessory stores. It is comfortable to use as it won’t snag your hair, and it looks good as a finishing touch to most hairstyles. It's versatility allows you to pair it with your beach outfits, to be used as a waterproof hair band and as a necklace.
#6 – Boots Keeper
These are must-haves for shoe lovers. I used to stuff my boots with tissue papers but now I use these plastic boots keepers to hold my boots upright and retain their shape when I am not wearing them. I am glad I found this product as it is not widely available. Made of plastic, they are easy to clean too. They also pack flat and are great when traveling.
#7 – Lavender Deodorisers
These are some of the best looking fragranced deodorisers I have found so far. Once you removed the plastic packaging, they look discreet without any mention of brand or text. The range of lavender deodorisers at Daiso do not have a synthetic smell and are perfect for scenting toilets, store rooms, shoe cupboards, and closets.
#8 – Pet Wipes
Dog and cat lovers out there will agree with me that this is a bargain. Large-sized pet wipes like this easily cost much more at pet stores. Each pack of this contains 30 anti-bacterial pet wipes. The wipes also have a deodorising effect and are safe for use around the pet’s eyes, mouth and ears.
#9 – Magic Sponge
Made with powdered pumice, this pair of magic sponge will keep your porcelain sink clean without the need of harsh cleaning agents. Simply wet the yellow sponge and clean the sink to remove stains and smears. Finish the process with the green sponge to keep the sink surface smooth and stain resistant. Cleaning the sink is now as easy as filing your nails.
#10 – Frog Sponge
This adorable frog sponge has a useful feature – it hugs the kitchen tap while it drips dry. This clever feature not only serves as an aesthetic feature but also as a hygienic practice to ensure the sponge is allowed to dry to prevent bacteria built-up. There’s also a pink piglet version available.
